A Tree Named Simon in the Flow of TimeIn Mr. and Mrs. Ponnlan‘s back garden there stood, for years and years, a tree. The tree, named Simon, had stood still for so long, seeing nothing but the same quiet garden and the same quiet house, he felt as if time had stopped. At first Simon liked the idea of time having stopped, meaning he could live forever, but soon boredom struck and he started longing for the flow of time again. To feel the time flow, Simon thought, he would need to be a part of the ever changing world outside the garden. And so Simon longed to see the world outside his dull backyard.

To the clouds on morning stroll?
Is the beach so flushed from breeze
Tugging at its ocean sleeves?
Do the seagulls find it fun
Getting caught in web of sun?
Do the trees feel hot beneath
Fluffy coats of Springtime leaves?
Did the flowers really miss
Butterfly's amorous kiss?
Does it bring the day delight
To stay longer than the night?
Does the night become more smooth
When, by warm air, it is soothed?
Could the reason Spring so beams
Be some secret, blooming dreams?

Dreamy moodI can hear the wind start playing;
Laugh of leaves, caught by surprise.
I'll compose what they are saying...
Translate it to something nice.

If I'll see the starlight twinkle,
Like the garlands in the sky,
I'll pretend it's quiet jingle
Of the reindeer, still nearby.

If I hear it start to drizzle,
I'll imagine that night has
Tuned to wind's melodic whistle
With a jazzy beat on glass.

If I'll see fog start to cover
Sapphire street with chiffon waves,
I'll assume... for secret lover
Night in peignoir now awaits.

For, tonight, despite what weather
Mother nature will combine,
Feeling dreamy, I would rather
